A very warm Welcome to JubileeWines!

"Finally, a type of wine we have never tasted before! Brilliant!"
"I would never have thought red wine this good comes from Germany!"
"This Padeiro is the best rosé wine ever. I just love it!"
"I want this Riesling for my wife’s birthday party”…"

Martin at a German vinyard Comments like these, the enthusiasm and praise of people tasting my wine selection, and keen head-nodding with regards to my wine philosophy have strongly encouraged me to take Jubilee Wines a big step further and to launch this website.

Backbone of the Jubilee Wines selection is the fascinating Riesling grape. We offer about two dozens of German Riesling wines, from bone-dry to noble-sweet, from 1-litre QbA  to half bottles of ice wine, from Pfalz to Mosel. With the Riesling’s unrivalled ability to transmit the characteristics of terroirs and vintages, twenty different wines represent a hugely varied world of wine. I dare say if you buy twenty different white wines at a supermarket, or even a specialist retailer, you will not get such a far reaching wine experience!

All wines come from one co-operative and a number of small to very small family businesses, who have been vintners for hundreds of years and know one thing or two about their terroirs. This invaluable experience that has been passed on for generations, coupled with sending the daughters and sons to university courses of oenology and viticulture explains what puts these small vintner businesses in a position to make truly remarkable Riesling wines (and others).

The second leg of Jubilee Wines are the wines from Portugal. Since my first wine tasting intrigued me in 1981 – it was a Port wine tasting and I was a sailor with the German Navy, those were the days – I have returned year on year for walks, hikes, journeys and wine tastings to nearly all parts of this beautiful country. With age I have learned to value the likes of Arinto and Aragonez, Trincadeira and Trajadura, Padeiro and Espadeiro. I admire the winemakers and Quinta owners who buck the trend to blend their indigenous treasures with Syrah or Cabinet Sauvignon, or in the Douro region to take up tempting offers to sell their Quintas all together to one of the big Port wine companies. Try a single varietal Trincadeira and discover its fine character. Try 20 year-old tawny Port from Quinta de Baldias or Vintage Port from Quinta Seara d’Ordens. Be amazed!

Naturally, bottling numbers of these non-mainstream wines are low, on average low 4-digit numbers, sometimes 3 digits (that’s bottles not cases). But low numbers and low yields enable me to offer wines with personality from unique terroirs made by winemakers with personality.

However, low numbers do not enable me to shout out loud: ”Better than half price! Was 8.99 is now 4.39! Limited to 6 cases per customer!” (Of course that company is member of a “Drink responsibly” scheme).
My aim is rather to inspire you. Before you buy a case of one wine, I would like to encourage you to discover and taste wines that you have never come across before.
Browse our wines and pick ANY 6 or 12 different bottles and get 6 respectively 12% off the total. It could be ANYTHING from White Port over Alentejo red to dry German Riesling or a noble-sweet “Beerenauslese”, or taste - as one of the first British persons at all - innovative-stunning Cabernet Dorsa. Choose as widely and wildly as you wish; at the end 6/12% will be deducted!

Last but not least, it is ever so important for a small company to get feedback from its customers. Positive comments are nice, criticism is more important, and wine comments are most important. Contact us and tell us your opinion, we will listen!

I wish you many happy and inspired moments with wine!

Cheers
